Building safer habits for new, young and emerging drivers & passengers

At S.A.M.E Academy, we deliver road safety education for a wide range of age groups, from primary-aged pupils learning independent travel to KS3–KS4 students developing pedestrian and passenger awareness. This page focuses specifically on our workshops for Post-16 learners, designed to support young adults as they begin travelling independently, driving, or becoming responsible passengers.

Young people aged 16–25 face some of the highest risks on the road. They are more likely to experience collisions, be influenced by peers, or take risks without fully understanding the consequences. Our Post-16 Road Safety Workshops give them the knowledge, confidence, and awareness to make safe, responsible decisions, on foot, on public transport, and behind the wheel.

Delivered across colleges, sixth forms, PRUs, youth offending teams, apprenticeship providers, and community groups, our sessions help young adults understand real-world risks and develop safer attitudes for life.

What the Workshop Delivers

Our workshops explore the influences, pressures, and behaviours that affect young road users, using real examples and interactive learning to create meaningful impact. Sessions typically include:

→ Peer pressure and decision-making ←
→ Driver and passenger responsibility ←
→ How and why collisions happen ←
→ The dangers of distraction (phones, passengers, social media) ←
→ Speeding, risk-taking, and overconfidence ←
→ Driving under the influence (alcohol & drugs) ←
→ Risks for moped, scooter, and bicycle users ←
→ How to identify unsafe situations and make confident choices ←

Content is adapted to suit the needs and locality of each group, ensuring the workshop feels relevant, engaging, and realistic.

Workshop Format

Our workshops are designed to be practical, thought-provoking, and easy to deliver within post-16 settings. They are:

• Interactive and engaging– featuring discussion, activities, case studies and video
• Discussion and participation – encouraging students to get involved
• Flexible– delivered in person or online
• Suitable for groups up to 40 participants
• One hour in duration– ideal for timetabled sessions or enrichment programmes

We tailor every session to reflect your organisation’s environment, cultural context, and priorities.

Why These Workshops Matter

Young drivers & passengers are some of the most vulnerable road users, often due to lack of experience, distraction, social influence, and overconfidence. Whether they are learning to drive, travelling as passengers, riding mopeds, or making daily journeys to school or work, they face real risks that require awareness and preparation.

Our workshops help learners to:

→ Understand how everyday choices affect their safety ←
→ Recognise unsafe situations on the road or as passengers ←
→ Build confidence in making responsible decisions ←
→ Develop lifelong habits that protect themselves and others ←

By empowering young adults with knowledge and practical strategies, we help create safer road users and safer communities.
